Als ik die hier in wil moet ik het dus via Photobucket doen ofzo. Bij Catventures werkt het wel. (Krijg ik ook wel zo'n album, maar dat kan verwijderd worden.) Nou jij en dan ik weer. Wat denken jullie: zou het misschien komen doordat Tielestek via een hotmail-adres loopt en Catventures @live?

 

 

That still doesn't work at all here. I only get an album weblog images, but no photo in the blog. So if I want to put a picture in here I have to do it through Photobucket or some such. Krokodillen voelen zich als een vis in het water van een kerncentrale in het Amerikaanse Homestead. De kolonie reptielen is er uitgegroeid tot vierhonderd. Dertig jaar gelden doken de eerste krokodillen er in het water, schrijft de Miami Herald. De reptielen zwemmen in het kanalensysteem van het koelwater voor de reactor. De natuurvereniging National Wildlife Federation prijst de kerncentrale voor de hulp in het behoud van de bedreigde diersoort. Volgens de krant herbergt de site van de kerncentrale nu een vijfde van de ganse krokodillenpopulatie in de VS.

Ik ben blij dat ik daar niks te zoeken heb trouwens.

 

Maar het volgende vind ik echt idioot.

In Oudtshoorn in Zuid-Afrika is een nieuwe toeristische attractie geopend: de "Croc Cage Diving", waarbij waaghalzen tussen krokodillen kunnen zwemmen. Voor een kleine dertig euro kunnen de moedigen zich in een ijzeren kooi laten afdalen, waarbij ze tien minuten lang van vlakbij de krokodillen kunnen bewonderen. De duikers krijgen geen zuurstoftank mee: adem inhouden of snorkelen is de bedoeling, zodat iederen een kans krijgt.

In de speciaal aangelegde "vijver" zwemmen Zimbakwe, een 80 jaar oude Nijlkrokodil van 4,3 meter en 564 kilo zwaar, en zijn iets kleiner vrouwelijk gezelschap, Ma Baker en Sweet Sue.

Sommigen mensen weten volgens mij van gekkigheid niet meer wat ze moeten doen om een kick te krijgen.

Crocodiles feel like a fish in the water of a nuclear plant in the city of Homestead, America. The colony of reptiles has grown into fourhundred. According to the Miami Herald, thirty years ago the first crocodiles plunged into the water there. The reptiles are swimming in the canal system of the cooling water for the reactor. The National Wildlife Federation commends the nuclear plant for their help in preserving the threatened species of animals. According to the newspaper the site of the nuclear plant now contains one fifth of the total crocodile population in the US.

By the way, I'm glad I have no business being there.

 

But in my opinion the following is really weird.

 

Geïnspireerd door het blog van Benona over dit onderwerp en de reacties daarop wil ik hier in navolging van een oud-kamerlid de wens uitspreken dat hopelijk daadkracht bij de kredietcrisis aanstekelijk werkt voor de aanpak van de klimaatcrisis en dit moment gebruikt wordt om de economie groener te maken. Waarom toch altijd òf- òf? Buig die trend om naar èn-èn. Het één kan volgens mij allang niet meer zonder het ander. Stop het klakkeloos volgen van de waan van de dag.

Inspired by the blog of a Dutch space-friend of mine about the above subject  and the reactions she got I would, following a former member of our parliament, like to express the wish that hopefully decisiveness in dealing with the energy crisis will work contagiously for dealing with the climatic crisis and that this moment will be used to make the economy more "green". Why does it always have to be one or the other? Change that trend to and-and. For a long time now the one is no longer possible without the other, I think. Stop following the delusion of the day.

Wist je dat de kalkoen oorspronkelijk uit Zuid-Amerika komt? De Spaanse veroveraars namen de exotische vogel in de zestiende eeuw mee naar Zuid-Europa. Ergens rond 1525 verscheen de kalkoen voor het eerst op de kersttafels in Engeland. Dat voorrecht was in het begin alleen weggelegd voor de adel. In de loop van de jaren verving de kalkoen de zwaan en de pauw als pronk- en kerstgerecht. De Britten kochten de eerste kalkoenen van handelaren die actief waren in Turkije en dachten daarom dat de vogel uit dat land afkomstig was. Vandaar de naam turkey.

 

 

 

Did you know the turkey actually originates from South-America? In the sixteenth century the Spanish conquistadores brought the bird to the South of Europe. Somewhere around 1525 the turkey made its first appearance on the Christmas tables in England. In the beginning that privilige was reserved for nobility only. Through the years the turkey replaced the swan and the peacock as a showpiece on the Christmas table. The Brits bought their first turkey from tradesmen who were active in Turkey and therefore thought the bird came from that country. Hence the name turkey.

 

 

Deze vond ik onlangs ergens op het internet en ik vinnum leuk. Doet me denken aan de opschudding die ontstond in spaceland tijdens en vlak na de jongste updates.

Overigens ben ik het met iedereen eens, die vindt dat het zuigt, dat we de volgorde van onze albums en de foto's daarin zelf niet meer kunnen veranderen. Ze moeten er niet over denken dat in een volgende update weer terug te brengen, maar ze moeten dat zo gauw mogelijk gewoon doen.

Het enige nadeel van mijn kat, vind ik, is dat ik nu elke dag moet stofzuigen. Niet mijn favoriete bezigheid. Ik ben het dan ook klutsend eens met Midas Dekkers als hij zegt dat het bankstel (bij hem, ik heb wel een bank, maar geen bankstel) weliswaar onder prachtig rode haren is bedolven, maar dat ze toch het mooist zijn met de kat er nog aan. The only disadvantage of my cat, I think, is that  now I have to vacuum every day. Not my favorite chore. So I absolutely agree with Midas Dekkers (Dutch biologist and writer of fiction and non-fiction for children and grown-ups) when he says that the lounge suite (at his place, I do have a couch, but not a lounge suite) is covered in beautiful red hairs, it's true, but that they are much more beautiful with the cat still attached.
